Answers to FAQ
1. Do I need to be a member of the club for my child to participate on swim team?
- Yes. All swim team participants are required to be members in good standing by the PPSL league bylaws. Allowing non-members to participate on swim team would result in the league revoking our membership so we are unable to make any exceptions to this rule. To learn more about membership in our club please see Join MSTC – Madeira Swim & Tennis Club (madeiraswimandtennisclub.com)
2. Can I register by mail or in person with a check?
- Unfortunately no. With the current tax laws all registrations need to be done through SwimTopia. We cannot accept an other forms of payment other than through SwimTopia for accounting purposes.
3. Is there a new team swimsuit this year?
- No. We have a permanent team suit effective the 2018 season. It is one of TYR's classic designs, in a basic navy. Suits that are ordered through Swimville will be heat pressed with the team logo on them. If your child still has a suit that fits from last year, it is totally fine to wear that until they grow out of it.
4. My swimmer needs a new swimsuit - how do I order one?
- This year we are again working with Swimville to coordinate team suit orders. You can order online or call and order (859-441-7946). Swim team logos will be added to suits ordered through Swimville. Swimsuits will be heat pressed instead of embroidered so Swimville is able to make them on demand in their Kenwood store. You can order a new suit at any point in the season and have it soon after your order.
5. My child wants a silicone cap, how do I go about getting one?
- Silicone caps will be available for purchase prior to the first meet and during practice times.
6. When will job signups for meets go online? How many meets do we have to volunteer for this year?
- Job signups are active NOW! Sign up early because the best jobs go fast. We need help from every family to make this summer a success. Not completing volunteer requirements may result in your child not being able to swim in Finals. All parents of swimmers on the main team (this excludes parents with only mini swimmers) are required to volunteer at one home meet and one away meet. In addition we ask all parents with swimmers at A finals or Eastside champs to volunteer for any meet they have swimmers or divers attending.
7. How many swim meets does my child have to participate in to swim at finals?
- Your swimmer must participate in two league swim meets to swim at finals. Unfortunately mini meets do not count as league meets
8. My child participated on the team last year. Do they need to tryout again this year?
- If your child was a mini last year they do need to tryout to move to the main team. Otherwise, no, your child does not need to tryout every year.
9. We have camps and vacations scheduled this summer. Can my child still participate on swim team?
- YES! All of our swimmers and divers have other activities, so we don't ever expect 100% practice attendance. If your swimmer will miss a practice here and there for other events - not a problem. If you will be missing a full week or longer please let the coaching staff know.
10. How do I declare for meets?
- You can declare your intent to swim any meet through the SwimTopia website and through the SwimTopia app. Click on the meet and meet signup. Please sign up for all meets at least 3 days prior to the meet so the coaches can create the meet lineup.
11. My child is sick last minute and will miss a meet. What do I do?
- As soon as you decide not to attend a meet you have signed up for let the coaching staff know. Your child might be on a relay and their absence may cause 3 other swimmers to not have an opportunity to swim. A heads up can allow the coaching staff to determine an alternate for the relays.
12. Is the cost for the mini team less than the main team?
- No, the cost is the same for both teams for two reasons. One, mini team swimmers often earn their spot on the main team after a few weeks of practice. Two, even though the minis have less practice time they are in a smaller group with more 1 on 1 direct instruction and stroke development.
13. I forgot to prepay for donuts or I have another child that also likes donuts. How can I buy more donuts?
- You can purchase donuts through the team store tab at the top of the page.
14. Where can I get some cool swag and support the team?
